Hybrid vigor plays a huge role in our operation. When we first started, we new that we wanted to work with Red Angus genetics. We were also aware that, like in every breed, there were some gaps. Adding Simmental genetics has helped to fill those gaps and build a stronger, more dependable herd as a whole.
The female comes first in our herd. We focus on her abilities and maternal traits in an effort to make the most dependable (and profitable) mating we can. Here at the Diamond H, we take pride in our genetic selection. While the data is helpful and always improving, we look at the phenotype and various traits of the animal as well. If they are great on paper, but are structurally unsound…chances are their calves will be that way as well.
